Walkin' 04:52
Been walkin’ ever so slowly Been walkin’ all night long But my feet are walkin’ on holy Walkin’ on holy ground And at times it feels just like I ain’t-a-goin’ nowhere I feel just like a Bengal tiger chasin’ his tail ‘round a tree And at time it seems as if there ain’t nobody upstairs But that’s precisely when I choose, I choose to believe ‘Cause down here it’s just an Adamant Evening Yeah, we’re stuck in the time of the fall And that loose, infernal deceiver He wants to try to steal it all And so he’ll black out the lights and use his might to make it dark and lonely And then he’ll try to trip you up and convince you to give up the fight And then he’ll try to make you feel as if you’re the one and only Whose willing to live and willing to do what it right But when I look back on over my shoulder I’m met with a curious sight I find the pain of yesterday’s colder ‘Cause I’ve been walkin’ into the light And the path that I’m on has led me right up on out of the darkness And I find that my cup is overflowing with goodness and love And there’s a table prepared for me in the place of all this starkness And Your goodness and Your mercy have found me from above Yeah I’ve been walking ever so slowly Been walkin’ all night long But my feet are walkin’ on holy Walkin’ on holy ground And I’m gonna walk, and I’m gonna talk I’m gonna walk, walk, walk, walk And keep on talkin’ and talkin’ hmmmm I’m gonna walk and keep on talkin’ Yeah I’m gonna walk

Broke 04:43
When a man gets broke, it’s a mournful thing He looses that shine and there’s that hollow ring When a man gets broke, it’s a crying shame ‘Cause he’ll roam from town to town and never know his name Like a city that’s broke down and has no walls Is a man that’s broke down, is a man that falls Yeah he’s wide open to jabs of any kind And any thief can come along and rob him blind But you have your ways, you have your means And you can take a man and restore him to new dreams Yeah you have your ways by which we’re found And I’ve seen you take a man and raise him from the ground And you make him strong and you help him to see And you make him just about as strong as any man can be Now a man that’s broke has no strength to stand No he’s always stumbling about on that ever shifting sand And when the storms they come, to and fro he’ll go Forced to bend and to break in which ever way the wind does blow But when we’re weak, you say that’s when you’re strong And you say that when we’re broke down, that’s when you’ll come along And you’ll give us new life and help us find the way And lead us out of the broken down night into the light of day *** So help me to stand Lord, for yet another day Oh Lord, make me stronger and teach me how to pray Lord, make me a light in this broken down land And help me to reach out with your love to the broken down man

When I was in darkness, when I was in sin When I was in darkness, I had no life within When I was in darkness, when I was in sin When I was in darkness, I had no life within And I was blinded in my pride And I was walking like a fool who’d lost his way And my heart was cracked and dried And the price for my soul to high to pay When I was in darkness, when I was in sin When I was in darkness, I had no life within Then you came and found me, when I was wretched and alone Then you gave me mercy and you made my heart your home Yes you gave me a name And you called me a child of your own And on my life you made a claim And you came and took away this heart of stone When I was in darkness, when I was in sin When I was in darkness, I had no life within But then You came and loved me, You came and made me whole Yes You came and loved me and brought new life to my soul You led me to the mountain Where the eternal stream of life runs cool clear And I’ve tasted of the water And it’s taken all my thirst and brought me here, brought me near When I was in darkness, when I was in sin Lord you came and found me a new place to begin When I was in darkness, when I was in sin Lord you came and loved me a gave me life within

Been a little lonely, been a little lonely now I want to love you but I don’t know how Time keeps passing by my door and I find I’ve Come right back to the place where I started before I can see the sunshine and still feel the gray I can feel wholeness inside the broken clay The open questions and the haunting rhymes And your soft affections send my heart beating out of time How can I live this love inside this pain? How do hold happiness when I’m wet with rain? The empty echo meets the joyful sound And I’m lifted up as I’m tied right to this ground Been a little lonely, been a little lonely now I know you love me but I’m not sure how

Well you might be bent and broken, your world a living hell Blind and disillusioned, lost under Satan’s spell Looking to things around you to set you free from pain But the minute you’re standing up the man is knockin’ you down again So open up the floodgate and let the healer in Yeah open up your heart and let that, Let that healing begin Well you can look to sex and money and you can look to rock-n-roll And you can look to drugs that’ll jack you up to try and save your soul Or you can pump yourself up on steroids or popularity But try as you might to loose the chains, brother, you ain’t got the key So open up the floodgate and let the healer in Yeah open up your heart and let that, Let that healing begin You might be jumpin’ on into the back seat, you might be jumpin’ in on the sly You got a fever for locomotion, just takin’ life for a ride Not thinking ‘bout eternal justice, not thinking all along Thinking that you’re in control ‘till everything goes wrong You can look to your Nirvana, make a wish at the wishing well And you can go and pray five times a day and go to church when they ring that bell But as long as your salvation is only determined by your will Well I’ve got some funky news for you, well brother, that don’t pay the bill So open up the floodgate and let the healer in Yeah open up your heart and let that, Let that healing begin Or you’ll wind up in a state of destruction, you’ll crash right through the ground You’ll look for love and a helping hand but there’ll be no one around When it comes down to the wire and your heart’s as cold as ice There’ll be some bitter weeping if the Lord don’t pay the price Well now Satan’s out to get you and he wants for you to die And he loves to break that little heart and he loves it when you cry But if you take a look around you at all of this disgrace It don’t take too long to realize that this world is not our place So open up the floodgate and let the healer in Yeah open up your heart and let that, Let that healing begin

I awoke in the morning to Your voice in my head You were callin’ out a warning I heard every word you said. You said, “Go to the mountain, The Son you shall see; Go to the mountain, To set your spirit free.” I awoke in the morning to Your sunlight on my face I could feel the warmth of Your beauty And see the beauty in Your grace I awoke in the morning and started walking down that road I could feel You there beside me As if my hand you did hold

A footstep follows another, another one is comin’ down I pray my feet fall firmly, firmly on Holy ground A footstep follows another; so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray our feet fall firmly, firmly on Holy ground And pray our feet fall firmly, firmly on Holy ground Hands can help one another, they can help everybody ‘round I pray my hands are helpful, helpful on Holy ground Hands can help one another so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray our hands are helpful, helpful on Holy ground And pray our hands are helpful, helpful on Holy ground Words can come so quickly and they can bless everybody ‘round I pray my words come gently, gently on Holy ground Words can come so quickly so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray our words come gently, gently on Holy ground And pray our words come gently, gently on Holy ground Eyes can see so clearly, they can see everybody ‘round I pray my eyes see rightly, rightly on Holy ground Eyes can see so clearly, so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray our eyes see rightly, rightly on Holy ground And pray our eyes see rightly, rightly on Holy ground Ears can hear so clearly, they can hear everybody ’round I pray my ears hear everyone, everyone on Holy ground Ears can hear so clearly, so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray our ears hear everyone, everyone on Holy ground And pray our ears hear everyone, everyone on Holy ground Love can bind us together, it can bind everybody ‘round I pray that I can love another, love another on Holy ground Love can bind us together, so let’s everybody gather ‘round And pray that we can love one another, love one another on Holy ground And pray that we can love one another, love one another on Holy ground

Given all this time you’d think I’d have an answer formed by now Given all this time you’d think I’d have it all figured out somehow Some way to be cool, some way to impress you with my smile Some way to reveal the burning of this heart that’s running wild You know I want to love you just the way you are But I don’t understand why I always run away from love so far Somewhere far away, somewhere hiding underneath the sun Somewhere underground you know I’m a fugitive from loving, on the run My heart has learned that love is only cruel And I’m afraid to go and play the fool *** Maybe you can help me by whispering words of love into my ear Maybe you can help me understand there really is no need to fear Maybe you can show me that my logic’s all messed up inside my head Maybe you can make things clear and help me put these restless dreams to bed My heart has learned that love is only cruel And now I’m praying that you can change that rule So I’m gonna believe that there can be a brighter way I’m gonna move myself somehow down this path that we have made I’m gonna take a stand and not be so afraid that I might fall ‘Cause a life that’s lived in fear simply ain’t a life worth living at all So now I’m placing my heart in your hands Trusting that this house of love will stand Given all this time you’d think I’d have and answer formed by now But give me time, I’ll have it figured out somehow

Become like a child, soft in heart and mild So become like a child, brave and strong and wild Don’t you be like a stone, so hard so cold so alone But give your life to him and…become like a child Life can be sad, and life can make you mad Life can bring you down, and spin your head around You can feel all alone, no heart, no hope, no home But give your life to him and say…. I’ll become like a child, soft in heart and mild I’ll become like a child, brave and strong and wild I won’t be like a stone, so hard, so cold, so alone I’ll give my life to him and…become like a child Well maybe you’re wrong: you won’t forgive, you won’t love, you won’t go along Maybe you’re proud, got your head in a cloud You can rage like a storm, but you won’t be soft and warm But give your life to him and say……

If You Go 04:14
Well I could love you in the morning with the sunshine And I could love you in the evening with the rain And I could love you in the snow, Love you any place I know But I cannot love you baby if you go I could be your company in the winter And I could be your bosom buddy in the spring And I could be your handsome buck and you could be my doe But I cannot love you baby if you go *** No don’t be scared of nothing, No don’t go run and hide Stay here in my arms babe, right here by my side Cause it’s your love that makes me grow, Yes it makes me croon and crow But I cannot love you baby if you go Now I could sing you little songs to bring you laughter And I could write you little poems to steal your heart And I could love you when you’re low ‘cause I’m your faithful bo But I cannot love you baby if you go *** Now I could walk with you through those long and dusty miles And I could hold you in my arms through the raging storms And I could love you through the ebb and flow, love you if we’re rich or poor But I cannot love you baby if you go No I cannot love you baby, I cannot love you baby No I cannot love you baby if you go

about

It's funny! I thought "Long Time Coming" took a long time to record, and yet this album took three times as long to produce. Eight years all told. Now that it is completed I'm not quite sure I believe it is actually finished. It is amazing to think about the life journey that has taken place in all of our lives during the making of this album. From the writing of "Been A Little Lonely" (2004) to the album's completion, I have traveled through a world of intense soul searching, gotten married, was blessed with the opportunity to study which culminated with a masters in philosophy of religion, had the privilege of becoming a father to our now nine month old son Jonah, and experienced the passing of my father Paul W. Schmidt in March of this year. To hold this album in my hands is to hold a world of emotions, thoughts, pains, joys, and change. It is nice that when I listen to the album I still believe in and feel connected to the songs. Pretty incredible really.

"Some will sing for fortune and some will sing for fame and some will sing because God has put a song in their hearts."

I'm so thankful for having had the privilege of working with everyone who helped in the making of this album. I am mostly indebted to Stephen May, without whom neither this album nor "Long Time Coming" would have come to be. Stephen is a wonderful, insanely talented man. He recorded, engineered and mastered this album as well as played the bass. With relentless and tireless persistence Stephen saw this album through, all the while smiling and serving to the best of his ability. Amazing.

I love playing with my brother Zac. He and I started out busking on the streets back in 1990 and have been playing together ever since. When I have to play without him, there's a massive whole in the music that only he can fill. I love his unique harmonies, style, passion and humor. They are invaluable.

Josh Stock, the drummer, makes us all laugh. He's fantastically hilarious not to mention extremely talented. I love it.

Heidi, my sister, is beautiful and has a heart and a voice of gold. She is currently finishing her degree in vocal jazz at DU and will, I'm sure, be making another album soon.

Julie Wiggins, who played the violin on "If You Go" and "On the Move," is really fun to work with in an irritating sort of way. In our live recording sessions, she is the only one us who could be counted on to not make a mistake every single time. I think we went through 14 takes to finally get "On the Move" right and Julie played flawlessly every time. Incredible. Irritating. (-:
